THE ART OF EATING A TOMATO

  • Find the tomatoes that are red and ripe for eating.
  • Twist gently so it comes easily off the vine.

  • Feel its smoothness against your lips and smell the aroma

  • Take a little nibble

  • Get comfortable to fully savor the sweetness

  • Take a big bite and enjoy!
  •  Repeat process over and over again until satisfied.
happy day! happy eating!

CELEBRATING LOVE

We celebrated LOVE with  Chuck and Shannon .

It was a beautiful ceremony and a FUN FUN FUN reception!

The little ringbearer could only last so long.

And I did get teary during the mother/son dance, but that should come as no surprise.
I am so proud of him. He is AMAZING.

LAZY HAZY DAYS

Sitting still on the deck amidst the quiet, watching the wildlife come close,
reading and relishing in my thoughts..
this IS what I mean when I talk of
the lazy hazy days of summer
To just be and enjoy the moment..in total awareness.

The air is warm with overcast skies and I cannot believe I have not spent many days like this so far. This is one of the few moments I have had to BE all summer..truly BE.

When did my summer get so busy?
August is already here, and even though there are many events on the calendar, I am determined to make time for more quiet awareness.
I haven’t been blogging much this summer either. I have a lot to say but I needed a break from  writing. When anything becomes a *have to*in my life, then I know I need to take a break; from gardening to blogging and most anything in between.
That is the secret to harmony and balance.

I have been posting on Facebook though, you can find me here.
The Garden WILD ( as I call it) is growing, weeds and all! Thank goodness for perennials. . .

and the few vegetables I did plant.

There IS still time to fill those empty pots and plant for a fall harvest!
The animals are doing well in the summer heat
and we’ve had the blessing to watch six chicks hatch and being raised by Mother Hen.

We went camping for the very first time..in a tent..with a whole group of unschoolers and had a terrific time.

We have spent time with people . . . at my Nest , Teen Connection, and visits with friends.
My son went to Sanibel island, my daughter is going to Washington DC and Virginia, and we have NEUC at the end of the month .
We will also celebrate LOVE as my older son, Chuck, will marry Shannon on September 3rd and the rehearsal dinner will be here at the farm.

Lots of joyfulness filling my life

There IS more of summer ahead (I love September!) but I m determined to find more days like this…to bask in being alive and happy of the life I lead.

( excuse the different colors and fonts ...blogger is giving me a dreadful time today)

A quote for Monday . . .

People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road doesn't mean they've gotten lost.

WORDS

A quote for today . . .
"Since we can't know what knowledge will be most needed in the future, it is senseless to try to teach it in advance. Instead, we should try to turn out people who love learning so much and learn so well that they will be able to learn whatever needs to be learned. "
~John Holt

HIDE N SEEK EGGS

We have to look everywhere for our eggs! It's a game of Hide n Seek!

Today Matilda, our Silver Polish hen, was laying amidst the daisies. I almost missed her as I walked quickly by.

They all seem to have their preferences, where they are most comfortable. It could be the barn, the duck house, under the front porch, or nestled somewhere among flowers and leaves.

One hen, a Buff Orpington, is sitting on eggs in the barn behind some hay bales, and has been for over fifteen days. She leaves once a day to eat and drink. Perhaps we'll have some baby chicks in another week.

Now off to find more eggs!

A SWEET SURPRISE

She had a surprise. It was something she discovered on her own and she seemed proud.

She held it ever so gently as she brought it closer.

Lifting her hand very slowly, she showed us Wood frog which she found under the shrubbery below the deck.

She touched him lightly and felt his smooth skin. He didn't mind.

She talked to him, with her sweet soothing voice, to let him know he was safe with her.

Even when he started to jump, she stayed calm. A bit surprised, but still calm.

She even let her little brother have a peek and put the frog safely in an empty flower pot.

After a little while, she took him back in her hands, said goodbye and put him back where she found him. She knew it was where he needed to be.

It was a joyous experience, as each experience with nature is.

As a child, one has that magical capacity to move among the many eras of the earth; to see the land as an animal does; to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee; to feel the earth quiver and breathe beneath us; to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unself- consciously to the soughing of the trees.

NATURE ART

Stems are pressed into the grooves in the rough bark to hold the leaves . . .

or the leaves are pressed in tight.. . .

 to enjoy . . .
until the next big wind takes them away.
