 A poem for Monday . . .

What would the world be, once bereft
Of wet and wildness?  Let them be left,
O let them be left, wildness and wet,
Long live the weeds and the wildness yet.
~Gerard Manley Hopkins

happy day!

A FAERIE WALKABOUT

We began our new *Faerie Walkabout* (a faerie trail) that meanders through the woodlands. Along the way we built faerie houses and will also plant shade plants. People will stay to the path so as not to disturb the plant life, wild life and faerie houses as they enjoy our walkabout.

You know children are engrossed in the moment and enjoying themselves when they spend an hour and a half in the woodlands building faerie houses, and even work straight through lunchtime. When you're having fun who thinks about food???

The children used bark, moss, sticks, pinecones, acorns, leaves, stones and other natural materials to construct their houses. Only natural materials are allowed to be used in faerie houses.

EVER SO QUIETLY

Did you ever walk step by step, ever so slowly and ever so quietly, without a single sound in hopes you might see a woodland faerie with your very own eyes?

and you pass through the ferns that tickle your bare legs . . .
and stop by the Bleeding Heart flowers and wild onion grass . . .
until you came to the area where you think they may be. . .
only to find a table. . . all set for a faerie meal . . .but not a faerie in sight.

Perhaps they are out in nature like you are, exploring and discovering and rejoicing in the symphony of bird song and the wonders at every turn.

It's the search, the anticipation, the whole journey that is most important anyway, and the most fun , even though we are determined to see a faerie one of these days.

Have YOU seen a faerie with your very own eyes?

JUST LOVELY

A rainy day is the perfect time for a walk in the woods.  ~Rachel Carson

We thought so too. The rain was lessening as we reached deeper into the woodlands.
Did you ever walk in nature and see letters and then think about making words?
Today we did.

This is DAY 13 in the Great Outdoor Challenge

And isn't it just L-O-V-E-L-Y?

Next time YOU are out walking, see what letters and words YOU can find!
