LOOK TO THE CHILDREN

I haven never given much thought to our Blueberry bushes in late Autumn. They are bare of leaves and bare of fruit, and while newer branches have a pretty reddish tint, they are just there
Not so for the children!
They see tunnels, and forts, and mazes

When I turned around, this is what I saw :

with voices that called :

We're hibernating!
Come hibernate with us!

as they lay ever so still under the Blueberry bushes.

Be still my heart! It was so very precious.

This is where the children belong. . .
in nature. . .
becoming one with the earth
playing together
 using their imagination.

If you are unsure about something, look to the children, they will probably have the answer.

happy day!

JUST WANDER

Take some time for you in the next few days. . . in nature. . . whether it's on your large acreage or your tiny city lot. Nature is all around you.
Just wander . . . in nature or in your thoughts. . . outdoors

Breathe and take in what you see . We need this time, again and again, especially during the holidays when life can feel like it's running ten yards ahead of us and we seem to be standing still.

It's a glorious time to wander as the seasons start to change, especially in our area, New England, where the air is invigorating and we need to start dressing in layers for warmth.

The bold colors are starting to disappear but don't let it fool you. The world may appear barren, but look closer and focus in, there is still beauty abound . . .
       to discover and delight in.

Our eyes tend to gravitate toward the bold colors, but once they have dwindled we are able to see the little things, the intricacies of the natural world. The little things that can bring us joy.

Go ahead. . .  just wander and focus in. . .  and rejoice in the little things all around you.

The world is mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful.

WORDS

A quote for today . . .

Breathe in the crisp air of Autumn,
appreciate the remains of summer past,
for Autumn is a time to cozy up,
 to reflect inward,
 and rejoice in resting,
 as does the Earth.

LOSS

Changes of the season are evident everywhere.

They bloom. . .
they flower and flourish . . .

. . . and lastly they perish
and return to nourish the earth .

Our lives mirror the natural world.
We have seasons too. For we are nature.

Today the skies mirrored my mood, sad and gray,
as I learned of the death of a friend.

A friend who had a zest for life and left this world all too soon.

I just had to walk and walk. . .
 to try and understand.
I was numb.

I needed nature . . . thinking of the words of John Muir:

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. "

The leaves on the drive . . .

and on the pond . . . are my tears.
Too many to count.

We often take life for granted and every once in awhile are jolted back into reality. . .to cherish what we have and to make every single moment count. Life is too short.

She leaves a husband and three boys ages 16-5. She left this world all too soon. Perhaps the universe has another plan for her. It is hard to understand what that could be as we are all devastated knowing she is gone.

But when I think of her, I smile, and sometimes laugh, thinking of all the wild and crazy things she did, as a mom and as a woman, always with a smile, laugh and an amazing zest for life.

I still need to walk, but my step is lighter now, realizing I have her inspiration and memories to keep in my heart forever. And it's the beauty around me that I see now, the flowers still in bloom, as our love for Heather will always be.

Rest in peace, my friend,
and thank you for enriching our world.
