LA VIGNETTE - PHOTO CHALLENGE

Today's photo challenge was to first show a vignette and then show the whole area .

We tend to show the best and crop out the rest. I know I do!  We have too many things going on at one time (and animals in the house!) to have constant order. Plus it's not within us, it's not our priority, that sense of organization and order.

This is a grouping atop our piano. The plants and pine cones were gathered from our land and a card is one my sister made using her photography.

Now. . .here is a bigger picture of the same area, when Romeo our yellow kitten jumped up at the last minute. Do you see him? Meanwhile, Juliet had been there all the time and was cropped out.

and an even bigger picture
You can see the light green bookcase and folding chair I moved in there for art supplies and games on Thanksgiving day.. That was a week ago, perhaps I'll move them one of these days.

Chania at RAZMATAZ hosts the photo challenge. Head on over to see other vignettes.

happy day!

HAND MADE - Photo Challenge

It is an amazing feeling when you finish. All those hours hand-piecing and hand-quilting and you can finally step back and enjoy it on the wall, or on the bed.
But. . .
you are extremely careful in the beginning. Are your hands shiny clean? Please don't sit ON it. Roll it down very carefully and please don't ever let it touch the floor.

But then life happens, you lighten up and forget about the many hours it took to make and now you just want to enjoy it in each way possible.

It gets pulled off the wall when there are no more extra blankets for those college-aged quests. It gets wrapped around a body as they run out in the brisk cold to get something out of the car (and I know it got dragged in the snow!) It has even cuddled up kids while they were eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while watching a movie. And most recently has been a cozy abode for one of our resident felines.

It's not that I forget how long I worked on it, it just gets put into perspective. It's sort of like labor, when one swears they will never go through that again but within a short amount of time there's talk of more babies.

This quilt holds a special place in my heart because it was the last quilt I worked on with a very special quilt teacher and friend who lost her battle with cancer.

So there's even more reason to live with this quilt, to touch ituse it, enjoy it and cherish the memories of the hard work along with the multitude of joys.

This week's photo challenge is *HAND MADE* hosted by RAZMATAZ.
Go take a peek at other hand made photos!

WHO KNEW? - A CAT TIP

Who knew a board in the house could come in so handy?

I purposely put it against the wall in the kitchen to remind myself to make my farm sign. I always need reminders because I have so many things going on at once.

Juliet, the kitty, has found it quite useful for sharpening her claws!

I couldn't imagine what the sound was, the first time I heard it from the other room, but I am more than happy that she use it.

Wouldn't YOU rather have your cat scratch a board than your upholstered furniture?

Try it, it might work for you too!

happy day!

UP A TREE . . . LITERALLY

It was bound to happen.
If you have a tree IN your house and you own a cat, it is inevitable.

When we built our new house I wanted a remembrance of the cedar trees in our old yard, the house where I grew up, so I convinced my hubby to make a corner molding out of one of them, and he did.

I picked just the right one that had an overhanging branch to the left.

The plan was to eventually replace all the leaves with preserved green ones from the cedars on our land here, but I haven't done that yet. The leaves have turned orangey brown and are quite crispy but they look fine for now. It's on the list though.
We hung a vacant wasp nest on the branch last year.  You can see it on the corner of the doorway.
So now those kittens have discovered a natural spot for their climbing, scratching and perching. Those very lucky kitties!

CURIOSITY

Just how curious are cats anyway?
Come on, I can show you.

It wasn't long before Juliet noticed the freshly picked flowers on the table. . .

and had to investigate.

It is said  Curiosity killed the cat . . . hmmm

IN A BOWL

I still haven't adjusted to having two kittens in the house..NOT YET... and they have been here since the beginning of June. They continue to surprise me day in and day out with what they get intoToday was no exception.

She is looking at me, right in the eye, and she knows she shouldn't be there. but yet doesn't move a muscle. I think she's deciding if she should stay or get ready to flee.

We usually have a spray bottle within arm's reach for whenever either of them jump onto the island or table. So where was that spray bottle today when I needed it???
Lucky for us, they have kept off the counters and sink area , so far that is.

In no time she answered her own question, as she stretched. . .

and yawned. . .

and nestled right in. . .

for a bit of mid-morning slumber.

Have you ever worked at your island while a kitten slept in a bowl nearby?
It was a first for me.

And truth be told, a perfect animal owner wouldn't have allowed it and would have been consistent and found the spray bottle and sprayed the kitten with water and the kitten would have sprang from the island in leaps and bounds, never to do that again. . . until tomorrow :)

     happy day!

WOOLY KITTEN

It has been years since we have had kittens, and now we have two, and I forget the antics and the things they get into, for there seems to be no boundaries as far as kittens go.
They choose to do whatever they want :)

The children love them and have even made a kitten toy for them.

Today I turned around in the kitchen and there was Juliet, as comfortable as could be, on the table. It's really not where I want her to be but this picture was precious.

You see, last night I had *plucked* one of our Angora rabbits, and came in through the slider and left the container of fiber at the end of the table. I meant to move it :)

This morning, while exploring, Juliet knocked over the container. (of course! ) and decided the angora was a very comfy bed for her morning nap

A very smart and resourceful kitten, don't you think? Sweet dreams, Juliet !

MEW MEW MEW

The newest members of our farm, Romeo and Juliet, are adored by the children.
Who can resist kittens ?

They play together and then the two kittens go off for another slumber time. After all, growing takes a great deal of energy.

Soon they are ready to play again!

We decided to make a very simple toy to use when they woke.
The children tied a long piece of ribbon to a jingle bell. It was good practice for them tying knots.

Then they tied shorter pieces of ribbon onto the long ribbon.
They were quite happy with the result,
and so was someone else!

The children were so proud they had made a useful toy, and had great fun playing with the kitten.
