We like to use what we have instead of making a purchase. And I try to share these ideas with the children I work with as well as my own family.
Look around your house and see what you can use.
We needed storage for small items that the young children could easily see and reach , so
we saved ice cream containers, cleaned and painted them, and put them in a bookcase for easy access. Some of the children even helped paint them.
We also use these containers for art supplies, sometimes putting nothing on them but a primer coat to cover the label.
glass jars
tin cans
waxed paper is used over and over and over again
and pizza boxes are given new lives. . .
as art in itself, painted and decorated (even the inside!) and used for treasured items,
OR as stacked storage with a strip of tape telling its contents.
Look around , become more aware, make a change and use what you have . You don't need as much as you may think :)
Suzan, at oldgreymare, is hosting Project Genesis . Head on over there to be inspired and see what small change YOU can make for yourself and the world.

You are so right! I have a friend who's inspired me to save all of those clear plastic bins that our salad greens come in, to store all of our craft supplies! I also use shoe boxes inside our drawers to hold and separate some of the smaller things!

I have said it before and I'll say it again. What lucky children to have you showing them the way.
They will remember because they were taught so well and they will care because it is part of their earliest imprinting.
Thank you so much for being a part of the very first Genesis. I am thrilled to have you here!

I agree, I try to reuse things, I never have any plastic in my home, and only natural toys. I take my cotton shopping bag when I go shopping, and try hard to be careful of the planet. cheers Marie
What a lovely to reuse that which would have ended up in a landfill somewhere. Your pizza boxes are fabulous and what a wonderful way to teach children to use their imagination when they create. I am truly inspired by your participation in Project Genesis.
love it! YES...use what you have!!
HI Marcia
You have some great ideas here. and love how you have the children involved too... start them young!! I'm afraid I tend to collect and never get around to the use part... must work on that.. although I agree plastic bits and pieces are fab for paint trays... Have a lovely weekend.. xx Julie
So lovely to meet a kindered spirit! People cannot believe how small our house is (375 square feet) our how little we need - and yet, we not only have enough, we feel blessed.
Wonderful post and ideas! Wishing you & yours a lovely weekend!

The pizza box idea is genius! I think I may need to order smaller pizzas now:))
So great that you've instilled this idea with your kids.
