LOOK AT THE STARS

Have you looked at the SKY lately?
These two books will inspire, excite, and inform you about the sky at night. We love them.

"One summer night, out on a flat headland, all but surrounded by the waters of the bay, the horizons were remote and distant rims on the edge of space.  Millions of stars blazed in darkness, and on the far shore a few lights burned in cottages.  Otherwise there was no reminder of human life.  My companion and I were alone with the stars:  the misty river of the Milky Way flowing across the sky, the patterns of the constellations standing out bright and clear, a blazing planet low on the horizon.  It occurred to me that if this were a sight that could be seen only once in a century, this little headland would be thronged with spectators.  But it can be seen many scores of nights in any year, and so the lights burned in the cottages and the inhabitants probably gave not a thought to the beauty overhead; and because they could see it almost any night, perhaps they never will."
                        ~Rachel Carson

Make some time for yourself to seek out the beauty overhead . . . and invite a child.

                        happy day!

I've noticed how Orion and Sirius are so high in the night sky now! Which means Scorpio will be coming back soon, and summer with it! And perhaps by sheer coincidence I've been thinking once again which books would be the best to REALLY teach the constellations and the night sky. So THANK YOU!

Marcia...I am returning your visit and have checked out every part of your blog and sites. Your property is gorgeous as is your philosophy. The programs you offer are unique and meaningful. Love your Haflingers...they certainly are well groomed.
We are also organic gardeners. In addition to the usual vegetables, my husband grow and sells organic seed garlic (German White).
I'll be back!

I love both of these books which sit constantly in our kitchen so they can be grabbed quickly as we head outdoors. I think is what makes them favorites is the fact that they give you the key to another world and give the impression that eventhough space is a vast place it can be yours to discover. Thanks Marcia.
